Security Office: "Enhanced Protection for Former Presidents and Consideration of Pyeongsan Village Residents' Hardships"
[Asia Economy Reporter Ki-min Lee] The Presidential Office announced on the 21st that it has expanded and re-designated the security zone near former President Moon Jae-in's private residence in Pyeongsan Village, Yangsan.
The Presidential Security Service stated to the media this morning, "We have expanded and re-designated the security zone near former President Moon's private residence in Pyeongsan Village, Yangsan, Gyeongnam," adding, "The previous security zone extended up to the residence fence, but it has now been expanded up to 300 meters from the fence."
The Security Service further explained, "This measure was taken based on the judgment that it is necessary to strengthen the security of the former president, as safety threats such as replica pistols and cutter knives appeared during protests and demonstrations in Pyeongsan Village," and added, "We also considered the hardships expressed by Pyeongsan Village residents who complained about difficulties in their daily lives."
They added, "This action is based on the 'Act on the Protection of the President, etc.' and will take effect from midnight on the 22nd."
Furthermore, "Accordingly, the Security Service will strengthen safety activities at the security level within the expanded security zone, including inspections, access control, detection of hazardous materials, traffic control, and safety measures," they emphasized.
Earlier, A (65), who had been causing disturbances by staging one-person protests in Pyeongsan Village since former President Moon's retirement, was booked by the police on the 16th for allegedly threatening a staff member of the former president's secretariat with an industrial cutter knife on the road in front of the former president's residence (special intimidation).
A is also accused of making insulting remarks and threats when the former president and his spouse went for a walk near the residence on the 15th, as well as threatening village residents with scissors during administrative enforcement aimed at dismantling protest tents of public officials on the 20th.
