Violinist Kim Seohyun Wins Thomas and Yvonne Cooper International Competition
[Asia Economy Reporter Seomideum] Violinist Kim Seohyun (14), a Kumho Young Artist, won first place at the 2022 Thomas and Yvonne Cooper International Competition, which concluded in Oberlin, Ohio, USA, the Kumho Cultural Foundation announced. The prize money is $20,000 (approximately 26.5 million KRW).
According to the Kumho Cultural Foundation, Kim Seohyun gained momentum for international activities through this victory. Through a contract with MKI Artist Management, she secured opportunities for about 10 solo recitals and collaborations across the United States over the next two years. She also received exclusive rights to premiere a new work composed by French horn player and composer Jeff Scott for violin and orchestra worldwide over two years.

The Thomas and Yvonne Cooper International Competition was established in 2010 to provide outstanding young musicians with opportunities to gain competitive experience on the international stage. It is open to young musicians aged 13 to 18 who are not currently enrolled in college. Notable Korean winners include Kumho Young Artists Jeon Seyoon (3rd place in piano, 2014) and Lim Yunchan (3rd place in piano, 2018), as well as Kumho Young Artist Park Gyumin (joint 1st place in violin, 2013).
