Sejong Fully Switches to Electric Two-Wheelers for Delivery Use
[Asia Economy (Sejong) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] Sejong City is promoting the complete transition of delivery motorcycles operating in the region to electric motorcycles.
According to the city on the 18th, there are currently about 1,000 delivery motorcycles operating in the area, which are identified as major sources of air pollution and noise pollution.
To fundamentally resolve these issues, the city plans to convert all delivery motorcycles in the region to electric motorcycles from this year through 2024 and install 60 electric motorcycle charging stations at key locations.
The project will involve a national government fund of 2.1 billion KRW and private investment of 2.7 billion KRW, with the city providing the land necessary for installing the charging facilities.
Through this project, the city plans to sequentially distribute 300 electric delivery motorcycles in 2022, 300 in 2023, and 400 in 2024.
Earlier, the city was selected as the final project site in the Ministry of Environment’s ‘Private Participation Zero-Emission Vehicle Transition Project’ competition this year, securing a total project budget of 6 billion KRW, which has energized the project’s progress.
To enhance the project’s efficiency, on the 18th, the city signed a business agreement for the ‘Expansion of Delivery Electric Motorcycle Distribution’ with BioBank, a motorcycle sales and rental company, and Logiol (CEO Chae Heon-jin), a delivery platform company.
According to the agreement, BioBank plans to establish a branch office in the city to support the distribution of electric motorcycles, installation of charging facilities, and ensure convenient maintenance of electric motorcycles.
Additionally, Logiol will provide electric motorcycles to delivery workers at reasonable prices and offer services that citizens can feel, such as reducing delivery fees.
