[Asia Economy Kim Gun-chan, Intern Reporter] The Seongnam Jungwon Police Station in Gyeonggi announced on the 17th that they have arrested a man in his 20s, identified as A, on charges of special robbery for threatening a convenience store employee with a weapon and stealing items before fleeing.
According to the police, at around 5:40 a.m. on the 14th, A purchased items worth approximately 12,000 won, including triangular kimbap, milk, and cigarettes, at a convenience store in Jungwon-gu, Seongnam City. While the employee was processing the payment, A threatened the employee with a weapon he had prepared in advance and fled with the items.
A also demanded cash from the employee, but when the employee firmly refused, he fled with only the goods.
Police who responded to the report arrested A in the basement of a one-room building about 1 km away from the convenience store where the crime occurred, approximately three hours after the incident.
During the police investigation, A reportedly stated that he committed the crime due to insufficient living expenses.
A, who has no particular occupation, had left his home and had been moving between PC rooms and motels without a fixed residence. It is known that he had no money on him at the time of arrest.
