Fake Dollar Bill Discovered During Currency Exchange Process... Police Investigation Underway
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Du-yeol] An incident occurred where a man reported a bank for exchanging counterfeit dollar bills.
On the 16th, the Busan Dongbu Police Station announced that they are investigating a report received around June about a man in his 50s, Mr. A, who was found to be in possession of counterfeit bills at a bank located in Dong-gu, Busan.
According to the police, Mr. A visited the bank to exchange leftover money after a trip to Cambodia, and among the dollars he brought, seven 100-dollar bills were counterfeit.
Mr. A filed a complaint against the bank, claiming that he never received or exchanged 100-dollar bills after the transaction and that the bank might have given him counterfeit bills.
Mr. A stated, “The exchange receipt was missing my name and account number, and the customer grade and transaction amount were recorded differently from the actual details,” adding, “It is possible that counterfeit bills were given at the time of exchange.”
The bank responded, “It is impossible because counterfeit detection machines are used to verify bills before payment during exchange,” and argued, “The receipt issue was a simple clerical error.”
The police have booked Mr. A on charges including currency counterfeiting and are currently investigating.
