How to Manage 'Triggered Earthquakes'? ... Pohang Geothermal Power Site Safety Management Project Resident Briefing Session
Progress Status and Long-term Stability Management Plan Explanation for Power Plant Site Safety Management Project at Energy Technology Evaluation Institute, POSCO International Hall, 10 AM on the 17th
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] A residents' briefing session on the safety management project of the Pohang geothermal power plant site will be held. The 2017 Pohang earthquake is known as a case of an induced earthquake caused by external forces other than natural causes.
The Korea Energy Technology Evaluation and Planning (KETEP) announced on the 15th that it will hold a "Residents' Briefing Session on the Safety Management Project of the Pohang Geothermal Power Plant Site" at 10 a.m. on the 17th at the POSCO International Hall International Conference Room.
At this residents' briefing session, the current status of the project and future plans will be introduced, and there will be time to communicate with local residents. It is an opportunity to resolve any questions, and attendance is open to Pohang citizens.
The geothermal power plant site safety management project has been promoted since 2019 to secure long-term safety management measures such as monitoring seismic activity, groundwater, and surface deformation at the geothermal power plant site, which was the cause of the induced earthquake.
So far, residents' briefing sessions related to the safety management project have been held three times last year for residents of the affected areas such as Heunghae-eup and Jangryang-dong, as well as for Pohang citizens. This year, a briefing session for citizens was held on July 11 at the POSCO International Hall.
Kim Hyun-gu, head of the Pohang Earthquake Special Support Team, said, "We are thoroughly managing the safety of the geothermal power plant site through continuous consultations with related organizations such as the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and the Evaluation Institute," and added, "We hope many citizens will show interest and attend the residents' briefing session."
