View original image[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Seryeong] On August 3, 1950, a battle took place between the 6th Division Reconnaissance Battalion of the North Korean Army and the Republic of Korea Marine Corps in Jindong, Masanhappo-gu, Changwon-si, Gyeongnam.
The Marine unit led by Kim Seong-eun, attached to the U.S. 25th Division 27th Regiment, achieved victory against the North Korean forces attempting to capture Busan via Masan, marking the first victory for the allied forces.
Since 2000, commemorative events have been held annually to remember this day, and this year, Changwon City held the 72nd anniversary victory commemoration ceremony for the Jindong-ri district battle of the Marine Corps in Jinbuk-myeon.
About 400 people, including Mayor Hong Nampyo, members of the Marine Corps Changwon-si Masan United Veterans Association, war veterans, and active-duty soldiers, attended the ceremony held at the Marine Corps Jindong-ri district battle monument in Jinbuk-myeon.
The Marine Corps Changwon-si Masan United Veterans Association, which organized the event, was established in 1996 and consists of 9 subordinate branches and 2 volunteer groups, with about 400 members actively participating.
