Gwangju Nam-gu Supports Fall Prevention with 'LED Light Remote Control Switch'
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] Nam-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City, is partnering with KEPCO KPS, an institution relocated to the Gwangju-Jeonnam Joint Innovation City, to carry out a win-win cooperation project that allows elderly people living alone to turn lights on and off with a wireless remote control to prevent fall accidents at home.
According to Nam-gu on the 12th, a handover ceremony for the ‘LED Light Remote Control Switch Support Project for Elderly Living Alone’ was held at the district office on the afternoon of the 11th.
The ceremony was attended by Nam-gu Mayor Kim Byung-nae, officials from KEPCO KPS, and representatives from the Nam-gu Senior Welfare Center. KEPCO KPS donated 10 million KRW in sponsorship funds for the LED lights and remote control switch support project, which allows users to turn lights on and off even while lying down.
Nam-gu plans to provide LED lights and remote control switches to some households of elderly people living alone in the district through the Nam-gu Senior Welfare Center.
The reason Nam-gu and KEPCO KPS are promoting the distribution of LED light remote control switches as a win-win cooperation project is that over 60% of safety accidents among the elderly are fall accidents caused by slipping inside residential facilities, and to prevent safety accidents related to the daily lives of elderly people living alone in advance.
The LED light remote control switch donated by KEPCO KPS is palm-sized, designed for easy operation to turn lights on and off.
In particular, when connected to a receiver that exchanges RF frequencies with the LED light, the remote control and receiver operate smoothly, allowing the light to be turned on and off even if there are obstacles or if operated from another room.

A Nam-gu official stated, “Elderly fall accidents occur in various ways, such as tripping over doorsteps in the dark or slipping on the edge of blankets. Especially for elderly people living alone, the situation is more dangerous because there is no one nearby to help. We expect this to be a great help in solving such problems.”
