Muan-gun Expands Tax-Free Fuel Increase Amount for Fishermen
Over 500 Fishermen to Receive First Round of Support Funds in August
[Muan=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Oh Hwan-joo] Jeonnam Muan-gun is implementing a project to support a portion of the increase in duty-free fuel prices to alleviate the burden of operating costs for fishermen who are struggling due to the recent rise in duty-free fuel prices.
The duty-free fuel support project for fisheries is based on the actual supply of duty-free fuel for fisheries received from Mokpo Fisheries Cooperative, Freshwater Eel Aquaculture Cooperative, and local Nonghyup from March to June this year. It provides support of 98 KRW per liter for diesel, 89 KRW for gasoline, and 68 KRW for heavy oil.
As the recent upward trend in oil prices continues, the project period has been extended from July to October this year, and in the second half of the year, the support rates have been changed to 85 KRW per liter for diesel and 200 KRW for gasoline and heavy oil.
To this end, the county secured a project budget of 300 million KRW and plans to pay the first round of support funds to about 500 eligible fishermen within this month.
A county official stated, “With the extension of the duty-free fuel support project for fisheries, we are additionally accepting applications from fishermen who have been issued a duty-free fuel card for fisheries and have supply records or are expected to receive supplies during the project period,” and added, “We will continue to do our best to ease the difficulties of fishermen.”
Meanwhile, among the registered fishing vessels in Muan-gun, 82% use gasoline engines, and it is expected that the expansion of this support will significantly reduce the fuel cost burden for fishermen.
