Seoul City Rings Bell to Commemorate 77th Liberation Day with Descendants of Independence Patriots
Mayor Oh Se-hoon to Ring the Bell 33 Times at Noon on the 15th with Descendants of Independence Patriots at Singakjong
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] On the 11th, Seoul City announced that it will hold a bell-ringing ceremony to commemorate the 77th Liberation Day at Bosingak in Jongno at noon on the 15th.
This year’s bell-ringing ceremony will be attended by 12 bell-ringers, including Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon, Seoul City Council Chairman Kim Hyun-ki, Jongno District Mayor Jeong Moon-heon, and descendants of independence activists selected as this year’s bell-ringers. They will be divided into three groups and ring the bell 11 times each, totaling 33 rings. In addition to six descendants of independence activists, this year’s bell-ringers include Seoul City ambassadors and world-renowned soprano Jo Sumi, Lee Joo-eun, head of the Youth Veterans Counseling Center for supporting the vulnerable, and singer Lee Sang-woo, ambassador for the Parents’ Association of People with Developmental Disabilities and the Public Guardianship Project for People with Developmental Disabilities.
Furthermore, as a pre-event for the Liberation Day bell-ringing, from 11:30 a.m., you can enjoy a choral performance including the ‘Liberation Day Song’ by the Jongno District Choir and a large-scale Taegukgi (Korean national flag) parade from Jongno District Office to Bosingak.
