View original image[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yeo Jong-gu] POSCO Pohang Steelworks is conducting ‘On-site Firefighting Equipment and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Training’ for its employees.
This training, aimed at all employees working at Pohang Steelworks, covers the use of firefighting equipment and CPR for early fire suppression and emergency response to cardiac arrest patients.
When departments apply for the training, disaster prevention staff visit the site to provide customized training for each department on ▲firefighting equipment management and usage ▲CPR and automated external defibrillator (AED) operation ▲wearing and using self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA).
If no action is taken when sudden cardiac arrest occurs, brain damage can happen within 4 to 5 minutes, and the response within the first 5 minutes of cardiac arrest determines the outcome.
Since CPR performed by initial witnesses during emergencies increases survival rates by more than three times, proper CPR training is directly linked to saving lives.
In 2020, a steelmaking department employee at Pohang Steelworks saved a man in his early 40s who lost consciousness while swimming at a pension on the outskirts of Pohang through CPR, demonstrating the effectiveness of POSCO’s CPR training in everyday life.
