[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Min-young] Last year, the number of depopulated areas with populations of '5 or fewer' residents slightly increased compared to the previous year.
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's National Geographic Information Institute announced on the 10th that it has released the "2021 National Land Survey" report and the "National Land Survey National Land Indicator Database (DB)."
The "National Land Survey Report" presents over 200 types of national land indicators covering fields such as population, society, land, economy, living, and welfare, allowing a comprehensive view of national land changes through indicators closely related to citizens' lives.
According to the report, depopulated areas accounted for 14.3% of the entire national land, an increase of 0.2% compared to 14.1% in 2020. Looking at depopulated areas with populations of 5 or fewer by city, county, and district, Bonghwa-gun in Gyeongsangbuk-do had the highest proportion at 49.89% of its total area, followed by Yeongyang in Gyeongbuk at 47.94%, and Jeongseon in Gangwon at 47.9%. By province, Seoul had the lowest depopulated area at 3.76%, while Gangwon had the highest at 38.61%.
As a new analysis, the convenience of using electric vehicle charging stations was analyzed on a 500m grid basis. The average distance to travel to use an electric vehicle charging station (accessibility) was analyzed as 3.99 km nationwide.
By city and province, the average accessibility distance to electric vehicle charging stations was 920m in Seoul and 1.01 km in Jeju, indicating high convenience in using electric vehicle charging stations.
The population ratio within the service area that can access electric vehicle charging stations within a 10-minute walk (based on a 750m distance) by city, county, and district was on average 66.27%.
Additionally, the 2021 National Land Survey report includes accessibility indicators (average travel distance and population status within service areas) for 25 types of facilities closely related to daily convenience, such as living area parks, libraries, hospitals, general hospitals, outdoor earthquake evacuation shelters, and fire stations.
