Seogwipo Coast Guard Conducts Safety Management for Grounded Vessel Near Wimi Port
[Jeju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Jeongpil] Seogwipo Maritime Police Station (Chief Kim Jin-young) announced on the 5th that they received a report of a fishing boat grounding accident near Wimi Port, Wimi-ri, Seogwipo City, and dispatched rescue forces to conduct safety management.
Seogwipo Maritime Police received a report at around 0:31 a.m. that fishing boat A (29t, coastal longline, registered in Seogwipo, 9 crew members) ran aground on a reef while navigating about 2.2 km east of Wimi Port. They immediately dispatched patrol vessels, rescue teams, and coastal rescue boats to the scene.
Two rescuers who arrived at the scene boarded boat A, confirmed that there were no casualties or flooding, and then attempted to refloat it using private marine rescue vessel B, completing the refloating at around 2:08 a.m.
They then attempted towing, but since towing with vessel B was not possible, they arranged another private marine rescue vessel C and started towing from 3 a.m. A 500-ton patrol vessel conducted safety management until the boat entered Seogwipo Port at around 4:55 a.m.
It was confirmed that there were no casualties or marine pollution caused by the accident.
Seogwipo Maritime Police confirmed that the captain tested negative for alcohol and is investigating the detailed circumstances of the accident based on the statement that the route was mistaken.
