New COVID-19 Cases Back to 110,000s... 47 Deaths, Highest in 2 Months (Update)
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Young-won] As the number of new COVID-19 cases once again reached the 110,000 range, the number of deaths recorded the highest in 75 days.
According to the Central Disease Control Headquarters on the 5th, as of midnight, 112,901 new COVID-19 cases were added, bringing the total cumulative cases to 20,273,011. Among these, 497 cases were imported from overseas.
The daily new cases have exceeded 100,000 for four consecutive days following the 2nd. Compared to a week ago on the 28th (88,356 cases), this is about 1.32 times higher. The health authorities expect the peak to form between 110,000 and 190,000 cases within this month, after which the outbreak is expected to enter a declining phase.
As of midnight, the number of new deaths was 47. This is an increase of 13 from the previous day, marking the highest since May 22nd (54 deaths). By age group, 23 were aged 80 and above, 12 in their 70s, 6 in their 60s, 5 in their 50s, and 1 in their 40s. The total cumulative deaths stand at 25,191, with a fatality rate of 0.12%.
The number of critically ill patients increased by 10 from the previous day to 320. The nationwide critical care bed occupancy rate is 32.7%, with 32.4% in the metropolitan area and 33.5% in non-metropolitan areas. The nationwide semi-critical care bed occupancy rate is 51.8%, with more than half currently in use.
With 112,06 additional patients under home treatment the previous day, the total number of confirmed cases currently receiving home treatment is 534,781. Among them, 6,955 are in the intensive management group receiving daily health monitoring from medical institutions.
