Seo In-guk and Jang Dong-yoon's 'Neukdae Sanyang' Invited to Toronto Film Festival Midnight Screening
16 Years After 'Gwoemul'
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Isul] 'Wolf Hunting' is heading to Toronto.
'Wolf Hunting' (director Kim Hong-seon) has been invited to the Midnight Madness section of the 47th Toronto International Film Festival, opening on the 8th of next month (local time). It will have its premiere screening at midnight at the 1,237-seat Ryerson Theater.
Midnight Madness is a section similar to the Midnight Screening at the Cannes Film Festival, showcasing films with powerful visuals and a youthful sensibility during the early morning hours. This is the first invitation in 16 years since director Bong Joon-ho's 'The Host' (2006).
Peter Kuploski, programmer of the Toronto International Film Festival's Midnight Madness, explained the reason for the invitation: "I really like genre films that start as one type of movie and then shockingly transform into another form, and 'Wolf Hunting' is excellent in composition and development in this regard."
Overseas distributor Finecut said, "Midnight Madness carefully selects only about 5 to 6 genre films worldwide each year, so being invited to this section is not easy," adding, "The premiere will take place on Friday and Saturday early mornings, the times when audience response is the hottest during the festival, so expectations are high."
This year’s Toronto International Film Festival invited director Lee Jung-jae's 'Hunt' to the Gala Presentations, and for Special Presentations, director Jung Woo-sung's 'Guardian', director Park Chan-wook's 'Decision to Leave', director Hirokazu Kore-eda's 'Broker', and director Hong Sang-soo's 'The Novelist's Film' were invited following 'Wolf Hunting'.
