Jeju Coast Guard Seizes 2 Motorboats for Illegal Fishing Operations
[Jeju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Jeongpil] Two motorboats engaged in nighttime fishing about 100 meters inside the Jeju Port boundary line were caught by the Jeju Coast Guard.
According to the Jeju Maritime Police Station on the 3rd, a report was received that two motorboats were fishing inside the Jeju Port boundary line in Jeju City at around 10:23 PM the previous day.
The Jeju Police Substation's coastal rescue boat was dispatched, and at around 10:51 PM, two motorboats, Motorboat A (3.71t / 1 crew member) and Motorboat B (0.17t / 1 crew member), were found fishing about 100 meters inside the boundary line.
Accordingly, the Jeju Coast Guard apprehended the two motorboats for violating the Maritime Safety Act, as they engaged in fishing activities for about two hours inside the Jeju Port boundary line, where fishing activities are prohibited due to the risk of obstructing maritime traffic safety.
A Jeju Coast Guard official stated, "Jeju Port is a trade port where large vessels and fishing boats frequently enter and exit, so fishing inside the boundary line is prohibited by law," and added, "Fishing inside the boundary line at night poses significant risks directly related to life, so we strongly urge people not to engage in such activities."
