[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Hyun-seok] Hyundai Wia has published its 2022 Sustainability Report, which includes its sustainable management activities and future management goals.
Hyundai Wia announced on the 3rd that it published the "Hyundai Wia 2022 Sustainability Report" to transparently disclose its major management achievements and future goals to all stakeholders, including customers and shareholders. In the report, Hyundai Wia clearly stated its goal to strengthen eco-friendly management that minimizes environmental impact and maintains a sustainable ecosystem. Along with this, it announced plans to create future value centered on "eco-friendly automotive parts" and "RnA (robotics and autonomous driving) solutions."
Through the Sustainability Report, Hyundai Wia revealed its "Five Major Innovation Tasks for Environmental Management" to respond to climate change: ▲Reduction of greenhouse gases and energy ▲Preservation of workplace and surrounding air environment ▲Wastewater treatment and recycling ▲Resource recirculation activities ▲Hazardous substance management. Hyundai Wia intends to continuously preserve the environment based on these tasks. It also announced a mid- to long-term plan to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. By 2030, it aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to 40% of the 2021 level, and by 2040, to 10%. The ultimate goal is to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.
Hyundai Wia is actively engaging in activities to reduce actual greenhouse gas emissions. First, all its business sites nationwide participate in the power demand response market. Additionally, depending on the site conditions, it is improving inefficient cooling water pumps and reducing water usage by installing high-efficiency water-saving devices. Through these activities, Hyundai Wia reduced greenhouse gas emissions by 20% compared to the government allocation last year and cut energy consumption by 22%. Furthermore, Hyundai Wia plans to utilize environmental improvement achievements as performance indicators and expand the purchase of eco-friendly products.
In the Sustainability Report, Hyundai Wia also disclosed the status of eco-friendly automotive parts development for future growth. It will mass-produce the "Integrated Coolant Distribution and Supply Module," one of the dedicated thermal management systems for eco-friendly vehicles, starting in 2023, and develop an "Integrated Thermal Management System" covering cooling modules and interior air conditioning by 2025 to supply to global automakers. Leveraging its long experience in mass-producing four-wheel drive (4WD) parts, Hyundai Wia aims to secure future growth engines by developing the "Electrified Axle (e-TVTC)," which can control the torque of the left and right wheels in addition to existing 4WD functions.
Hyundai Wia also included its future plans for RnA solutions in the report. It aims to lead innovation in future manufacturing by providing smart manufacturing and logistics solutions based on robotics and autonomous driving. To this end, Hyundai Wia is currently developing autonomous logistics robots, collaborative robots, and an "AI Logistics Robot Control Solution" using these technologies.
Hyundai Wia plans to continuously publish the Sustainability Report annually and strengthen communication with stakeholders. A Hyundai Wia official said, "The Sustainability Report allows you to see Hyundai Wia's ESG management achievements and future growth plans," adding, "We will continue to expand communication with stakeholders and strive to demonstrate sustainable growth."
