'Increased Transmission' BA.2.75 Infections Rise by 5 to Total 14 (Update)
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Young-won] Five more cases of BA.2.75 infection, known for its immune evasion and high transmissibility, have been confirmed in South Korea.
The Central Disease Control Headquarters announced on the 3rd at midnight that five additional BA.2.75 infection cases were confirmed domestically, bringing the total cumulative cases to 14. All five newly confirmed cases were imported from overseas, and epidemiological investigations are currently underway.
A in their 30s residing in Chungnam tested positive on the day of arrival from Nepal on the 26th of last month. They underwent home treatment with mild symptoms and have now been released from isolation.
B and C, both teenagers living in Incheon and unvaccinated, tested positive without symptoms the day after arriving from India on the 27th of last month. They are currently undergoing home treatment.
D, a person in their 30s staying in Incheon, completed the third vaccine dose and arrived from India on the 27th of last month. After testing positive on the 28th, they are receiving home treatment with mild symptoms.
E, in their 50s and also residing in Incheon, completed the third vaccine dose. They tested positive on the day of arrival from India on the 29th of last month. They are currently undergoing home treatment with mild symptoms.

BA.2.75 is a subvariant of Omicron, first identified in India in May of this year. Compared to BA.2, it has eight additional mutations in the spike gene, allowing it to bind more effectively to cells and strongly evade antibodies formed by vaccination or infection.
