Five Complete Vehicle Manufacturers All Show Increased Sales in July (Comprehensive)
Increase Compared to Same Month Last Year After 5 Months
[Asia Economy Reporter Kiho Sung] It has been revealed that all five domestic automakers saw an increase in sales volume in July. Based on the sales performance of the five companies, this marks the first time in five months that sales have turned to an upward trend compared to the previous year.
According to the combined results announced on the 1st by the five domestic automakers, global sales (including exports of semi-knocked down products), combining domestic and overseas sales, amounted to 665,270 units, representing a 6.9% increase compared to the same period last year. Domestic sales were 122,134 units, a 1.1% decrease compared to the same period last year. However, overseas sales, which account for a much larger volume, increased by 8.9% to 543,136 units. This is the first time in five months since February that monthly sales performance has increased compared to the same month of the previous year. Notably, all five companies saw an increase in overseas sales.
By company, Hyundai Motor sold 56,305 units domestically and 269,694 units overseas, totaling 325,999 units in the global market. Compared to the same period last year, domestic sales decreased by 5.9%, while overseas sales increased by 6.3%. Overall, the total increased by 4.0%.
Kia sold 51,355 units domestically and 206,548 units overseas, totaling 257,903 units. Compared to the same period last year, domestic sales increased by 6.6%, overseas sales by 6.2%, resulting in a 6.3% increase in total global sales.
Korea GM's domestic sales were 4,117 units, down 15.7% compared to the same month last year. However, exports, including semi-knocked down products, reached 49,826 units, a 19.1% increase. As a result, total sales reached 53,943 units, a 15.5% increase compared to the same period last year.
Renault Korea Motors sold 16,673 units last month, a 51.1% increase compared to the same month last year. Domestic sales were 4,257 units, a 14.1% decrease compared to the same period last year, but export sales increased by 104.4% to 12,416 units, thanks to the popularity of the 'hero model' XM3 (export name Renault New Arkana).

SsangYong Motor sold 10,752 units, 31.8% more than in July last year, due to increased sales following the launch of the mid-size sport utility vehicle (SUV) Torres. Domestic sales recorded 6,100 units, a 7.9% increase compared to the same month last year, and exports increased by 85.9% to 4,652 units. This marks the first time in 1 year and 7 months since December 2020 (10,591 units) that SsangYong's monthly sales exceeded 10,000 units.
