Gochang-gun Hosts 'Mudflat Festival' After 2 Years... Various Events Planned

[Gochang=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Jaegil] Jeonbuk Gochang-gun is already predicting a hit for the '2022 Gochang Mudflat Festival,' which will be held for three days starting from the 5th at Mandol Mudflat in Simwon-myeon.

According to the county on the 1st, Gochang's mudflats are a top tourist destination with a pristine environment that was registered as a UNESCO World Natural Heritage site last summer.

The Gochang Mudflat Festival Committee (Chairman Kim Chung) holds the mudflat festival annually to widely promote the valuable mudflats of Gochang.

At this festival, resumed after two years, various experiential activities are prepared, including 'Mudflat Experience Activities' where participants enter the mudflat to dig for clams and small clams, 'Slippery Pungcheon Eel Catching' where participants catch Gochang's representative seafood, Pungcheon eel, with bare hands, and the 'Marine Ecology Education Mobile Classroom' operated by the Korea Marine Environment Corporation.

In the food section, there will be a variety of seafood specialty food corners unique to Gochang, such as Kim Bugak and Dongjuk Seafood Ramen, and a place to taste and purchase on-site Pungcheon eel, Gochang's representative specialty product.

Additionally, in connection with the World Natural Heritage Gochang Mudflat promotion campaign, experiential programs for children such as observing halophyte plants and making sea jewels will be operated, and on-site mudflat education with professional ecological guides is also prepared.

Kim Chung, chairman of the Gochang Mudflat Festival Committee, said, "At the Gochang Mudflat Festival, you will be able to beat the heat with abundant food and diverse experiential activities," and added, "We will make every effort to prepare so that the 2022 Gochang Mudflat Festival can be an opportunity to widely promote the proud Gochang mudflats and Gochang seafood."
