The athletes sponsored by SKT include Hwang Sun-woo (19), who emerged as the flagship star of Korean swimming through the recent Tokyo Olympics; Park Hye-jung (19), known as the post Jang Mi-ran and responsible for the future of Korean weightlifting; Son Ji-in (15), the youngest national representative in rhythmic gymnastics; and Cho Hyun-joo (15) in skateboarding, totaling four athletes.
Since 2007, starting with swimmer Park Tae-hwan, SKT has played a supportive role in strengthening Korean sports competitiveness through long-term and continuous sponsorship of amateur sports prospects.
For the newly sponsored athletes, SKT will provide top-level support over the next three years, including training support funds, incentives based on international competition results, mental care, and condition management.
The sponsorship ceremony was held on the morning of the 1st at the SKT Tower located in Euljiro, Seoul, with the four athletes and company officials including Kim Hee-seop, SKT Communications Officer, in attendance.
With this sponsorship contract as a starting point, SKT plans to expand support for various sports and athletes in the future, continuously contributing to the development of the sports industry.
Since last year, SKT has launched the ‘Korea Sports Development TF’ to lead the balanced development of various sports and strengthen the global competitiveness of domestic sports. In addition to its existing sponsorship of the Fencing Association, SKT is pioneering the discovery and investment in various forms of sports that can resonate with the MZ generation, such as newly sponsoring the Breaking (B-boying) sports and e-sports associations.
