Selected 5 Universities Including Yonsei University and Hanyang University
Education Planned for Core Mineral Development and Utilization
[Asia Economy Reporter Jang Sehee] Sejong University has been selected for the Resource Specialized University Project and will receive various project funds from the government.
According to Sejong University on the 31st, the university was recently selected for the Resource Specialized University Project aimed at securing future core raw materials. Along with Sejong University, four other universities?Yonsei University, Pukyong National University, Korea Maritime and Ocean University, and Hanyang University?were selected.
The Resource Specialized University Project is part of the Ministry of Education's cross-ministerial collaborative talent cultivation initiative. This project was promoted to nurture outstanding talents who will lead the resource development industry amid the increasing importance of securing raw material resources and resource security.
Universities selected for the project will receive annual funding ranging from 150 million to 200 million KRW from the government until February 2025.
At Sejong University, the Department of Earth Resource Systems Engineering is leading this project. Sejong University stated that through this project, it plans to cultivate global resource development experts who will lead the Fourth Industrial Revolution era.
Sejong University will focus on projects such as exploration of critical minerals, education for the development and utilization of critical minerals, and training resource engineering professionals by integrating intelligent information technology.

Professor Jeong Myeong-chae of the Department of Earth Resource Systems Engineering at Sejong University said, "Securing core raw material minerals necessary for the semiconductor and battery sectors has become extremely important," adding, "We will do our best with the department professors to ensure the successful implementation of this project."
