View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Kang Woo-seok] The police are tracking a man who habitually commits 'no-show' (not showing up after making a reservation) acts at gimbap shops and cafes in Seoul.
On the 28th, the Gangdong Police Station in Seoul announced that on the 22nd, a report was received that a man identified as Mr. A placed a takeout order for 40 rolls of gimbap at a gimbap shop in Gangdong-gu but did not come to pick up the food.
Mr. A reserved 40 rolls of gimbap and said, "I will pay for the food later." However, he never showed up and did not pay for the food. The gimbap shop owner, Mr. B, called the number left by Mr. A, but it turned out to be a stolen number.
In an interview with KBS, Mr. B said, "When the order for 40 pieces came in, I was so happy and excited," and added, "After being no-showed, my legs went weak, and I just sat down for a long time."
Mr. B reportedly discarded all the prepared gimbap and lost a day's earnings.
According to KBS, the owner of the stolen number used by Mr. A has been suffering from number theft for over seven years. The victim, Mr. C, said, "This kind of contact is not just once or twice," and added, "I have received calls from Chinese restaurants, cafes, flower shops, furniture stores, and clothing stores."
Nearby cafes and Chinese restaurants also received orders for more than 10 servings of drinks and food from a man presumed to be Mr. A but similarly did not receive payment as he did not show up. The Chinese restaurant owner, Mr. D, said, "The man was tall, and the staff said they were treating him after a long time, ordering more than 10 bowls of food."
