Gochang-gun Opens 'Mujang Nokdu Forest Natural Burial Site'
[Gochang=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Jaegil] With the establishment of the second natural burial facility in Gochang-gun, Jeonbuk, the region is leading an eco-friendly, customized funeral culture.
On the 27th, the county held an opening ceremony after the Mujang Nokdu Forest Natural Burial Site completed its long construction.
About 200 people attended the event, including County Governor Shim Deokseop, Gochang County Council Chairman Im Jeongho, county council members, Jeonbuk provincial assembly members, heads of institutions and social organizations, and residents.
The Mujang Nokdu Forest Natural Burial Site was created using the public cemetery site in Gora-ri, Mujang-myeon, with a project cost of 4.024 billion KRW since 2018 to prepare for the rapidly increasing cremation culture and to lead an advanced funeral culture.
It was developed on a 37,681㎡ site including a management office, ritual hall, parking lot, rest area, and burial grounds, with a capacity to accommodate 4,050 burial units.
With the opening of the Mujang Nokdu Forest Natural Burial Site, Gochang-gun became the first local government in Jeollabuk-do to have two public natural burial sites (Sillim Green Forest Natural Burial Site and Mujang Nokdu Forest Natural Burial Site), thereby genuinely leading an advanced funeral culture.
The Mujang-myeon Sports Association, selected as the final entrusted institution in March, stated, “We will do our best to operate with the mindset of serving all residents who use the funeral facilities established in the region.”
Governor Shim Deokseop said, “With the opening of the Mujang Nokdu Forest Natural Burial Site, the county has taken the lead in advanced funeral culture. We will continue to do our best with the commitment to take full responsibility for all welfare throughout residents’ lives to create a happy and vibrant Gochang.”
