Pohang City Achieves Energy Welfare! Completion of Ocheon-eup LPG Pipeline Network Construction Project ... Promoting LPG Pipeline Network Construction in 12 Villages This Year
Fuel Cost Burden Reduction, Improvement Expected in Cooking and Heating Convenience
Within 10 Years of Expansion, 99% of All Citizens Enter the Era of Energy Welfare!
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Dongguk Lee] On the 27th, Pohang City, Gyeongbuk Province held a 'Completion Ceremony for the Energy Welfare LPG Pipeline Network Construction Project' at the village hall in Galpyeong-ri, Ocheon-eup.
At this completion ceremony, about 80 people including Lee Kang-deok, Mayor of Pohang, Baek In-gyu, Chairman of Pohang City Council, city and provincial council members, representatives from the Korea LPG Pipeline Network Project Group, Korea Gas Safety Corporation, construction officials, and local residents attended to commemorate the completion of the LPG pipeline network construction project that enables the use of LPG gas at the level of city gas in rural fishing villages where city gas is not supplied.
On this day, after a tape-cutting ceremony to celebrate the completion, during the post-ceremony event, the mayor and key guests directly visited households with LPG facilities installed and took time to listen to the opinions of residents actually using the facilities.
The city has been promoting the LPG pipeline network construction project targeting a total of 28 villages in rural fishing villages without city gas supply from 2021 to 2023 as a national project with a total project cost of 16.8 billion KRW (70% national subsidy, 10% provincial subsidy, 10% city subsidy, 10% self-payment), and is continuously expanding city and provincial subsidy projects.
This Galpyeong-ri village in Ocheon-eup invested a total of 670 million KRW from last year to install LPG facilities in 51 households, enhancing citizen convenience through the realization of energy welfare.
Pohang City selected the construction company, supervisor, and fuel supplier after going through various administrative procedures such as resident project briefings, detailed design, bidding, and resolving complaints related to site selection for smooth LPG pipeline network construction. After technical review by the Korea Gas Safety Corporation, supply facilities such as small storage tanks, gas pipelines, and boilers were installed to complete the project.
Mayor Lee Kang-deok said, "Through the completion of the LPG pipeline network construction project in Galpyeong-ri, Ocheon, it is expected to improve the quality of life by reducing the fuel cost burden of local residents who have been excluded from energy welfare benefits and resolving inconveniences in cooking and heating." He added, "We will continue to expand energy welfare projects to eliminate energy welfare imbalances between regions and do our best to discover and support marginalized areas."
Pohang City aims to realize an 'energy welfare era' where 95% of all citizens within 5 years and 99% within 10 years can benefit by expanding city gas and LPG pipeline networks at the level of city gas to eliminate energy imbalances between urban and rural areas. On March 17 last year, the city held a 'Pohang City Energy Welfare Realization LPG Pipeline Network Construction Project Business Agreement (MOU)' with the Korea LPG Pipeline Network Project Group and Korea Gas Safety Corporation, and announced that it will continue to promote energy welfare projects for city gas and LPG pipeline network construction at the city gas level.
