Last month, Manager Kwon sensed that a male customer in his 20s, Mr. A, who visited the branch and attempted to withdraw the entire balance of his account amounting to 30 million won, was a victim of voice phishing. When Manager Kwon asked Mr. A the reason for the withdrawal, he replied, "It is to repay a debt owed to an acquaintance," concealing the fact that it was voice phishing.
However, convinced it was voice phishing, Manager Kwon reported the case to 112. According to the police, Mr. A received a call from someone impersonating the prosecution, stating that his account had been used for illegal fund transactions. Furthermore, he was deceived into believing that to prove his non-involvement in the crime, he needed to withdraw the full amount and hand over the funds to a courier impersonating a Financial Supervisory Service employee, then confirm the serial number.
Upon receiving the letter of appreciation, Manager Kwon said, "I have always paid attention to signs of suspected voice phishing damage and performed deposit and withdrawal duties carefully. Although the customer denied the damage, after reporting to 112, I was able to protect the customer's valuable assets."

A Yongsan Police Station official stated, "Recently, loan scam crimes have decreased due to focused blocking of loan-related text messages and malicious apps used in voice phishing, but crimes impersonating institutions are increasing. We ask that calls impersonating government agencies and demanding money be promptly reported to 112."
