Gokseong-gun Announces Site Selection Contest for New Household Waste Treatment Facility
Agreement on the Use of Metropolitan Sanitary Landfill Signed with Gwangju Metropolitan City Expires in 2025
[Gokseong=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Cha Jong-sun] Gokseong-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Lee Sang-cheol) announced on the 27th that it is recruiting candidate sites for a new waste treatment facility until August 26.
Gokseong-gun's agreement to use the metropolitan sanitary landfill with Gwangju Metropolitan City will expire in 2025.
Also, according to the revised Waste Management Act Enforcement Rules enacted last year, direct landfill of waste will be prohibited from 2030. In response, Gokseong-gun is promoting the construction of a new waste treatment facility.
The new waste treatment facility will consist of a waste incineration plant, landfill facility, resource recovery center, and food waste treatment facility.
The incineration facility is planned to be built with a daily processing capacity of 20 tons, and the landfill facility will have a capacity of 118,000㎥.
The resource circulation facility (recyclables sorting center) is planned with a daily processing capacity of 13 tons, and the food waste treatment facility is planned with a daily processing capacity of 10 tons.
About 4 billion KRW will be invested to install convenience facilities for residents in villages surrounding the waste treatment facility.
10% of the annual waste import fee can be raised as a fund.
Gokseong-gun plans to hold resident briefing sessions for local residents interested in hosting the facility.
The recruitment of candidate sites will be conducted throughout Gokseong-gun.
Those wishing to host the facility must submit consent forms from more than half of the household heads within 2 km from the boundary of the planned waste treatment facility site, and consent forms from more than half of the landowners of the waste treatment facility site.
