Acting Prosecutor General Lee Won-seok Orders Thorough Investigation of Inha University Sexual Violence Death Case
[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Seok-jin, Legal Affairs Specialist] Acting Prosecutor General Lee Won-seok has ordered a thorough investigation into the sexual violence death case that occurred at Inha University.
On the 27th, the Supreme Prosecutors' Office announced that Acting Prosecutor General Lee received a direct report on the investigation status of the Inha University sexual violence death case from Incheon District Prosecutor General Shim Woo-jung the previous day and instructed that the truth be uncovered through a thorough investigation.
Additionally, the Supreme Prosecutors' Office stated that Acting Prosecutor General Lee instructed the Forensic Science Department and Criminal Division to promptly provide all necessary support, including digital forensics, video analysis, and legal review, and urged them to do their utmost to prevent secondary damage and support the victim's bereaved family.
At around 1 a.m. on the 15th, on the third floor of a college building on the Inha University campus in Incheon, a first-year student A sexually assaulted classmate B, caused B to fall, then discarded a mobile phone and fled, but was later apprehended while hiding.
At around 4 a.m. the same day, B was found in front of the first floor of the building. When the 119 emergency responders arrived after a report, B was in a weak state of breathing and pulse. After receiving emergency treatment including cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), B was transported to a nearby hospital but ultimately passed away.
On the 22nd, the Michuhol Police Station in Incheon applied charges of quasi-rape resulting in death and violation of sexual violence punishment (filming using a camera, etc.) against A and sent A to the prosecution under detention.
