Jeon Nam Provincial Assemblyman Lee Gyu Hyun Calls for Introduction of Eco-Friendly Seafood Certification System
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Jun-kyung] On the 26th, the Jeonnam Provincial Council announced that Assemblyman Lee Gyu-hyun (Democratic Party of Korea·Damyang 2) called for the introduction of an ‘Eco-friendly Seafood Certification System’ during the 364th extraordinary session’s Marine Fisheries Science Institute business report.
According to Assemblyman Lee Gyu-hyun, the eco-friendly seafood certification system is a system that certifies aquaculture farms that comply with hygiene and safety to prevent and manage potential hazards that may occur at fish farms. Certified farms receive income stabilization support through direct payments for eco-friendly seafood production support.
Assemblyman Lee said, “To reduce carbon emissions in response to climate change and secure the future competitiveness of Jeonnam’s seafood, it is necessary to actively introduce the eco-friendly seafood certification system,” and requested, “Please actively promote the spread of the eco-friendly seafood certification system to contribute to the income stability of fishermen.”
In response, Park Joon-taek, head of the Marine Fisheries Science Institute, said, “The eco-friendly seafood certification system has received international certification at 30 locations in three cities and counties centered on Wando County,” and added, “Currently, it is being promoted for 206 farms in nine cities and counties.”
