Yongin City Makes Library Book 'Borrowing and Returning' Easier... Replaces All Outdated Equipment
[Asia Economy (Yongin) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Yongin City in Gyeonggi Province has replaced all outdated book return machines in its libraries.
On the 25th, Yongin City announced that it had replaced 22 outdated automated devices, including self-checkout and return machines at six libraries such as Suji Library, with new return machines costing about 380 million KRW to enable citizens to use the libraries more conveniently.
The replaced devices include unmanned self-return machines that allow book returns 365 days a year, self-checkout and return machines with adjustable height to fit users' physiques, and book loss prevention devices with improved recognition rates to prevent book theft.
These devices are equipped with RFID technology that uses radio frequency to read book information. As a result, library staff do not need to check books one by one, and users can automatically borrow and return books through the machines.
The existing equipment frequently malfunctioned due to aging, such as failing to properly recognize books, causing inconvenience not only to citizens borrowing books but also to library staff performing their duties.
