Yoon Hee-suk Elected as Progressive Party Standing Representative: "We Will Leap to the Third Party in the 2024 General Election"
[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Ju-yeon] Yoon Hee-suk has been elected as the new Standing Representative of the Progressive Party.
According to political circles on the 24th, the Progressive Party conducted a vote on Yoon, who was the sole candidate from the 18th to the 22nd. Out of a total of 27,062 members, 25,598 (94.59%) voted in favor, electing Yoon as the Standing Representative.
Representative Yoon stated, "We confirmed the passionate desire of party members to overcome the entrenched two-party political system and the unequal economic system, building on the achievements in the local elections." He added, "In the 2024 general election, we will leap forward as the third party and achieve a power shift centered on labor."
Representative Yoon previously served as the moderator of the ten million candlelight rallies of the Emergency National Action for the Resignation of the Park Geun-hye Administration and as the Standing Representative of the Korea Youth Solidarity.
The Progressive Party evaluated him as "a suitable figure to protect the lives of workers and ordinary people against the labor-hostile Yoon Seok-yeol government and to replace the old political and economic systems."
