On the 21st, Jeong So-eun won first place with a new Korean record of 54.82 seconds in the women's general division freestyle 100m event at the 1st Gwangju National Swimming Championships held at the Gwangju Nambu University Municipal International Swimming Pool.
The previous Korean record was 54.83 seconds, set by Kim Seo-young (Gyeongbuk Provincial Office) at the national team selection competition in November 2020. This record was improved by 0.01 seconds after 20 months. Jeong So-eun received a 1 million KRW reward from the Korea Swimming Federation for the new Korean record.
Jeong So-eun raised expectations for breaking the Korean record in the freestyle 100m by posting a split time of 54.76 seconds as the anchor leg in the women's general division 4x100m freestyle relay (3 minutes 48.50 seconds) the day before, where she collaborated with her teammates An Se-hyun, Park Han-byeol, and Choi Hye-min to win.
With the addition of the freestyle 100m (54.82 seconds) to her existing records in the freestyle 50m (25.08 seconds) and butterfly 50m (26.26 seconds), Jeong So-eun now holds three Korean records.
