Urbanbase Participates in Big Data Platform Construction Project with Ministry of Science and ICT and NIA
Consortium of 12 Major Real Estate Organizations and Companies to Massively Release Interior and Indoor Space Data
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Jonghwa] Urbanbase Co., Ltd. announced that it will participate in the real estate sector of the '2022 Big Data Platform and Center Construction Project' organized by the Ministry of Science and ICT and the National Information Society Agency (NIA) in the form of a consortium. Urbanbase will provide its core indoor space data, including 2D·3D floor plan data and 3D modeling product data, as well as spatial analysis artificial intelligence (Space AI) services to help expand the real estate ecosystem.
The 'Big Data Platform and Center Construction Project' aims to produce and supply high-quality data that can be utilized by the public and businesses. Since 2019, the Ministry of Science and ICT has been building and operating big data platforms in 16 fields such as finance, telecommunications, environment, and transportation, along with over 180 platform-linked big data centers.
The consortium led by the Korea Real Estate Board includes a total of 12 public institutions and companies such as Urbanbase, Korea Land and Housing Corporation, Korea Proptech Forum, Korea Transport Institute, Spatial Information Industry Promotion Agency, Zigbang, Spacewalk, Oasis Business, and Drone Orange. They aim to develop innovative services through real estate data production and distribution, and promote the activation of the data economy by fostering data specialists.
Urbanbase’s 3D floor plan data is built on patented technology that automatically models 2D architectural drawings into 3D spaces in just a few seconds. Through the 3D floor plan data, the structure of various residential spaces such as apartments, mixed-use complexes, and officetels can be checked in real time without visiting the site. Additionally, since area information necessary for interior construction can be viewed without actual measurement, it helps reduce the time and cost required for interior work. Based on the accumulated 2D·3D floor plan data, Urbanbase has developed a 3D interior SaaS service that allows users to virtually decorate imagined spaces, which is provided domestically and in Japan.
The spatial analysis artificial intelligence (Space AI) service provided beyond the data analyzes indoor space images to recognize space types and objects located within the space, analyzes interior styles, and then recommends products that suit the style. Since it is provided in the form of an API (Application Programming Interface), it is possible to recreate it as a new type of curation service based on spatial analysis.

Kim Deokjung, Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Urbanbase, said, "Previously released indoor space data was limited in quantity and difficult to access, which restricted its use by various people. The large volume of indoor space data that Urbanbase is opening up can be easily used by anyone regardless of public or private sectors, so we expect many creative proptech services utilizing the data to emerge."
