[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The Ministry of the Interior and Safety announced that it selected 22 disaster safety certified products useful for mitigating disasters and enhancing safety management levels, and held the ‘2022 First Half Disaster Safety Product Certification Award Ceremony’ at the Government Sejong Complex on the 20th.

The ‘Disaster Safety Product Certification System’ was introduced in 2018 to improve the nation’s disaster safety management capabilities and promote the development of excellent products and technologies. So far, a total of 71 products have been certified as outstanding disaster safety products. At the event, Kim Seong-ho, Director of the Disaster Safety Management Headquarters at the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, presented certificates to companies recognized for excellence in disaster safety products.

This year’s disaster safety certification applications were accepted from January 24 to February 25, with 143 products submitted. Evaluations were conducted through first screening, on-site inspection, and second screening.

Among the selected key products, a ‘remote inspection (monitoring) closed-circuit television (CCTV) applying a flame detection sensor and camera’ was certified, which detects fires at an early stage and transmits real-time information to managers to prevent large-scale fires. A ‘portable water purification filter applying a positively charged porous material’ was selected, which ensures safety by removing bacteria during water pollution and is attached to PET bottles to assist in drinking water supply. Other certified disaster safety products include a ‘ultraviolet sterilization plasma air sterilizer,’ a ‘portable (carrier-type) emergency signaling device,’ and a ‘rock bolt-type slope collapse warning device fixed to bedrock.’

Certified products may display the disaster safety certification mark on the product and advertisements for three years while the certification is valid. They are also eligible for government procurement benefits such as exclusive contracts with national and local governments, recommendations as innovative products for public institutions, and designation as excellent products by the Public Procurement Service.

Kim Seong-ho, Director of the Disaster Safety Management Headquarters, said, “We hope that the various disaster safety products certified this time will be actively distributed at disaster and safety sites to effectively respond to disasters and contribute to enhancing public safety.”
