President Yoon at Cabinet Meeting on Daewoo Shipbuilding Strike: "The Public Will Not Tolerate It" (Update)
[Asia Economy Reporter Ki-min Lee] On the 19th, President Yoon Suk-yeol pointed out regarding the strike by the subcontractor union at Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME), "The use of illegal and threatening methods will no longer be tolerated by the public." This is interpreted as implying that public authority will be deployed if the DSME subcontractor union does not end the illegal occupation-style strike.
At the Cabinet meeting presided over by President Yoon at the Yongsan Presidential Office that morning, he said, "As the illegal strike by the DSME subcontractor union prolongs, the damage to the shipbuilding industry, which is recovering with difficulty, and to our economy is enormous, and concerns from local communities and citizens are growing," adding, "The use of illegal and threatening methods will no longer be tolerated by the public."
He continued, "Regardless of labor or management, the rule of law must be strictly established in industrial sites," emphasizing, "The economy is very difficult right now. It is time for everyone to join forces and devote themselves to overcoming this crisis."

Earlier, on his way to the Yongsan Presidential Office, when reporters asked President Yoon, "Are you considering deploying public authority regarding the DSME strike? What is the expected timing?" he responded, "In industrial sites and labor-management relations, illegal acts by either labor or management must not be neglected or tolerated," implying the deployment of public authority by saying, "I think both the public and the government have waited long enough."
