[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yu Seong-hoon) announced that the ‘Jeong Ran-hee Special Exhibition’ is being held at Malgeunnuri Small Library until August 26.
At the Jeong Ran-hee Special Exhibition, visitors can see the author’s picture book May’s Rice Balls and original illustrations. In addition, about 20 books by Jeong Ran-hee held at Malgeunnuri Small Library are also on display.
May’s Rice Balls is a historical picture book dealing with Gwangju in May 1980. It won the Peace and Human Rights Literature Award in 2015 and is the new work of Jeong Ran-hee, who has worked to widely share hidden stories of modern and contemporary history through books such as Grandmother Mumyungcheon and Girls Who Became Butterflies.
On the first day of the exhibition, it began as a ‘Traveling Original Art Exhibition’ at M Tower Square in front of Geumcheon-gu Office Station. Some residents who recalled the memories of that day stood still for a long time, their eyes welling up with tears.
Malgeunnuri Small Library is located on the 5th floor of Siheung 1-dong Community Center and is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. from Monday to Friday.
So far, Malgeunnuri Small Library has attracted residents’ positive responses by organizing various locations and operation methods such as the ‘Rooftop Outdoor Deck Original Art Exhibition’ where the scenic view of Hoamsan Mountain can be seen at a glance, the ‘Main Reading Room Original Art Exhibition,’ the ‘Traveling Original Art Exhibition,’ and the ‘Drive-Thru Original Art Exhibition.’
Yu Seong-hoon, Mayor of Geumcheon-gu, said, “We hope that Geumcheon-gu’s small libraries will continue to grow and develop together with residents through creative and excellent reading culture programs close to the community.”
