A Woman in Her 50s Stabbed Cohabiting Man in the Side with a Knife After Being Ignored... Sentenced to Prison in First Trial
Between March and May
Charged with injury using soju bottles and weapons 3 times
1st trial: "Highly blameworthy"
[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Gyumin] A woman in her 50s accused of repeatedly assaulting her common-law partner has been sentenced to prison in the first trial.
On the 16th, Judge Park Miseon of the Criminal Division 9 at the Seoul Western District Court announced that A (54), who was indicted on charges of special assault, was sentenced to 1 year and 4 months in prison on the 13th.
The court stated, “The defendant has a history of multiple criminal punishments and family protection orders for violent crimes and has repeatedly committed violent acts against the victim,” adding, “There was a risk of causing greater injury to the victim by striking the victim’s head with dangerous objects such as soju bottles or weapons, or stabbing the victim’s side.”
It continued, “Despite being under investigation and prosecution for the March incident and being on trial, the defendant did not refrain from committing the crime again twice, which is highly condemnable, making severe punishment commensurate with the guilt inevitable.”
However, the court also noted, “The defendant admitted to each offense in this case, and the victim expressed a desire not to punish the defendant,” as reasons for sentencing.
A was indicted for hitting B (58), her common-law partner with whom she had lived together since December 2020, on the head once with a soju bottle during an argument while drinking at their residence in Eunpyeong-gu, Seoul, around 10:30 p.m. on March 1.
A’s assaults continued twice more. On April 19 at 11:35 p.m., at the same location, A told B to leave the house, but when B refused and ignored her by watching TV, A, in anger, struck B’s crown with a weapon from the kitchen, causing a bleeding injury.

About a month later, on May 26 around 9 p.m., A again told B to leave the house. After B said, “I will leave if you return the 100,000 won you gave me today,” A handed over the money. Angered by B’s acceptance of the money, A demanded “Give me the money back,” then repeatedly punched B’s head, grabbed B’s hair, kicked B several times, and stabbed B’s left side with the weapon used in April, causing injury.
