[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyung-min] Nam Su-hwan, Deputy Director of the 3rd Division of the Financial and Economic Audit Bureau at the Board of Audit and Inspection, has been appointed as the first Human Rights Inspector of the High-ranking Officials' Crime Investigation Agency (HCIA).
According to the HCIA on the 15th, Deputy Director Nam will assume the position of Human Rights Inspector at the HCIA starting on the 18th. The Human Rights Inspector at the HCIA is responsible for internal audits, inspections, and protecting and improving human rights during the performance of duties, serving as an internal control role. The term of office is three years.
The newly appointed Human Rights Inspector Nam passed the judicial examination in 1997 (29th Judicial Research and Training Institute class) and joined the Board of Audit and Inspection as a Grade 5 official in April 2000. He has worked as the head of the 2nd Division of the Administrative Safety Audit Bureau and the 4th Division of the Industrial Finance Audit Bureau. He is recognized for his specialized auditing skills and high understanding of investigations as a legal professional.
With this appointment, the HCIA fills the Human Rights Inspector position for the first time in one and a half years since its launch. Although two recruitment attempts were made, no suitable candidates were found, leaving the position vacant for a long time. To fill the vacancy, prosecutors from the investigation department had to perform the role in a support capacity.
