Jihyun Park Declares Official Candidacy, Promises to Excise Rotten Parts and Patch Holes in the Democratic Party
Official Candidacy Declaration of Park Ji-hyun on the 15th
[Asia Economy Reporters Chae-eun Koo and Jun-yi Park] Former co-chair of the Democratic Party's Emergency Response Committee, Park Ji-hyun, has declared her candidacy for party leader.
On the 15th, Park held a press conference in front of the National Assembly and said, "I, Park Ji-hyun, will give it a try. I will cut out the rotten parts and fill the holes," adding, "I will create a Democratic Party that comforts the sighs of ordinary people and breathes warm courage into them."
She continued, "Today, I have decided to run for party leader to transform the Democratic Party into an open party that better listens to diverse voices, a competent party that better takes care of people's livelihoods, and one that can better resolve the impending crises," she emphasized.
She argued that "The Democratic Party has lost three consecutive elections while turning a deaf ear to the pain of youth, ordinary citizens, and the middle class," and added, "Yet our Democratic Party has not crossed the river of hypocrisy and double standards, nor is it prepared to part ways with the strong fandom that has ruined the party," insisting that the Democratic Party must change.
The day before, Park stated on Facebook, "I have decided to run for party leader to keep the promise of innovating the Democratic Party into one that embraces the voices of youth and women," and emphasized, "If the Democratic Party is not going to tolerate young politicians who speak harsh truths anymore, then I hope they will clarify their position on allowing Park Ji-hyun's candidacy."
