Gyeongbuk Province held the "2022 Gyeongbuk Life Improvement Members Unity Festival" on the 14th at the Park Chung-hee Gymnasium in Gumi.

Governor Lee Cheol-woo of Gyeongbuk Province, Bae Han-cheol, Chairman of the Gyeongbuk Provincial Council, Mayor Kim Jang-ho of Gumi, members of the National Assembly, provincial councilors, and about 5,000 Saenghwal Gaeseon members attended the event.
This event, under the theme ‘Let’s Unite Gyeongbuk Agriculture! Soar, Future Agriculture!’, pledged a new leap for local agriculture led by women through changes and innovations in agriculture and rural areas to prepare for the era of localization and small practices of carbon neutrality in daily life.
Commendations were also awarded to 23 members and excellent associations who have devoted themselves to community development, including 23 Governor’s Awards, 1 Rural Development Administration Commissioner’s Award, 1 Korean Saenghwal Gaeseon Central Association President’s Award, 3 excellent associations, and 3 outstanding members.
An exhibition, sales, and tasting event of local agricultural products was held to promote excellent agricultural products, and the eco-friendly handmade product sales booth sold items such as natural dyed products, receiving positive responses from members.
Lee Jin-hee, president of the provincial association, said, “Having overcome the difficult times of COVID-19 and gathered members in one place after a long time, we will unite even more and strive for future agriculture and prosperous rural areas, with women farmers leading changes and innovations in agriculture and rural communities.”
Governor Lee Cheol-woo said, “The Saenghwal Gaeseon Association greatly contributed to improving the quality of rural life by leading the Saemaul Undong during difficult times,” and added, “In the rapidly changing era of the 4th Industrial Revolution, I ask you to take the lead in creating a new Republic of Korea with the power of Gyeongbuk by demonstrating women’s delicacy and inclusiveness.”

The Korean Saenghwal Gaeseon Gyeongbuk Provincial Association, established in 1958 as the Saenghwal Gaeseon Club, is a representative rural women’s learning organization with about 12,000 members in 303 associations across the province. For over 64 years, it has contributed to scientific farming, practical life skills, and the enhancement of women farmers’ rights.
