[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Kim Gun-chan] At around 5:10 PM on the 14th, a roller coaster carrying 24 people stopped 55 meters above the ground at an amusement park located on Bomun-ro in Gyeongju, Gyeongbuk.
According to Gyeongju City, about 50 minutes after the accident, at around 6:15 PM, safety personnel belonging to the amusement park carried out a rescue operation, and all 24 passengers on board were rescued.
The safety personnel escorted the passengers down to the ground one by one using the emergency stairs, but the passengers had to endure anxiety and fear while waiting for rescue.
At the time, the ride was automatically stopped by a sensor that detected a mechanical malfunction, and the exact cause has not yet been determined.
Gyeongju City has taken measures to temporarily suspend the operation of the amusement park and is investigating the accident by summoning the amusement park officials.
A Gyeongju city official said, "We will determine the cause accurately through on-site investigation and other means, secure safety, and then decide on resuming operations."
