Damyang-gun Achieves Overall Victory After 50 Years at Jeonnam Youth 4-H Project Competition
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] Damyang-gun, Jeollanam-do announced on the 14th that its young farmers won the overall championship for the first time in 50 years since 1972 at the ‘Jeonnam Youth 4-H Project Competition’ hosted by the Jeollanam-do Agricultural Technology Institute.
The Jeonnam Youth 4-H Project Competition is the largest event held biennially by the Jeollanam-do 4-H Federation.
This competition saw about 700 Youth 4-H members from 21 cities and counties in the Jeonnam region competing in seven categories.
Damyang-gun achieved high scores by ranking first in the Member Excellent Agricultural Food Brand Exhibition, first in the 4-H Activity Photo Contest, first in attendance rate at the competition, and third in the member talent show, ultimately winning the overall championship. Additionally, they placed third in the ‘Member Excellent Project Contest’ and secured prize money of 50 million won.
The Damyang-gun 4-H Federation, which won the overall championship, was awarded a certificate (from the governor), a championship flag, and prize money of 1 million won for federation activities.
County Governor Lee Byung-no said, “I sincerely congratulate Damyang-gun’s Youth 4-H on winning the overall championship for the first time in 50 years,” and added, “We will spare no effort to actively support the stable settlement of young farmers in the region, including Youth 4-H members.”

Meanwhile, the Damyang-gun 4-H Federation, organized in 1958 as a learning group for young farmers, currently has 89 members who engage in various activities such as practicing advanced agricultural technologies, discovering applicable techniques for farming sites, and community service.
