[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Gyumin] Minister of the Interior and Safety Lee Sang-min visited the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency Mobile Headquarters to hold a meeting on police system improvement plans.
At 10:40 a.m. on the 14th, Minister Lee held a meeting on police system improvement plans centered on the establishment of a new police organization within the Ministry of the Interior and Safety at the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency Mobile Headquarters located in Sindang-dong, Jung-gu. Attending from the Ministry of the Interior and Safety were Minister Lee, Lee Yong-cheol, Director General of the Planning and Coordination Office, and Kim Ki-young, spokesperson for the Ministry. From the police side, Kim Kwang-ho, Commissioner of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency, Eom Seon-gyu, Head of the Mobile Headquarters, Kwak Chang-yong, Commander of the 3rd Mobile Unit, and Kim Ki-jong, Commander of the 7th Mobile Unit attended.
After shaking hands with the attendees at the meeting, Minister Lee said, “I sincerely thank all of you for your efforts to minimize citizen inconvenience and ensure safety during the large-scale rally of about 50,000 participants organized by the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions in early July.”
He continued, “Starting from two weeks ago, I have been communicating through local police agencies and will conclude the first phase of communication by meeting you today,” adding, “This is because I have sufficiently explained and conveyed the position through on-site meetings so far.”
Earlier, Minister Lee began visiting frontline police stations starting with the Hongik Police Substation of Mapo Police Station in Seoul on the 1st, followed by visits to Gwangju Police Agency and Daegu Police Agency to hold meetings to listen to frontline police officers’ opinions on the Ministry of the Interior and Safety’s police system improvement plans.
