[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Isul] In June, the box office revenue for Korean films reached 95.2 billion KRW, marking a 12.4% increase compared to the pre-pandemic period in 2019.

According to the Korea Film Council's June report on the Korean film industry, last month 'Crime City 2' accounted for 53.7 billion KRW in revenue, representing 33.9% of the total. 'Jurassic World: Dominion', 'The Witch Part 2: The Other One' (hereafter 'The Witch 2'), and 'Top Gun: Maverick' each earned over 10 billion KRW in revenue.

The total revenue for Korean films was 95.2 billion KRW, a 20.0% (15.9 billion KRW) increase from the previous month, with attendance rising 20.9% (1.62 million) to 9.35 million viewers. 'Crime City 2' earned 53.7 billion KRW, 'The Witch 2' 25 billion KRW, and 'Broker' 12.3 billion KRW, together accounting for 57.5% of the total revenue.

The audience share for Korean films was 60.4%, while foreign films held 39.6%. For the second consecutive month, Korean films surpassed foreign films in audience share.

Revenue from foreign films was 62.9 billion KRW, down 11.9% (8.5 billion KRW) from the previous month, and attendance for foreign films was 6.12 million, a 10.3% (700,000) decrease. The top-grossing foreign film, 'Jurassic World: Dominion', earned 29.1 billion KRW.

The cumulative revenue from January to June this year totaled 452.9 billion KRW, a 143.1% (266.6 billion KRW) increase compared to the same period last year, with cumulative attendance reaching 44.93 million, up 124.4% (24.9 million) year-on-year.

'Crime City 2' topped the overall box office in June with 53.7 billion KRW in revenue and 5.2 million viewers, maintaining its number one position for two consecutive months since May. 'Jurassic World: Dominion' ranked second with 29.1 billion KRW in revenue and 2.82 million viewers. 'The Witch 2' was third with 25 billion KRW in revenue and 2.43 million viewers.
