At around 2 p.m. on the 13th, part of the platform at KTX Gyeongbu Line Gwangmyeong Station began to be submerged. The boarding area, passenger waiting room, and elevators were flooded, making it difficult for passengers to move.
Currently, Gwangmyeong Station has adjusted the boarding and alighting locations for passengers, and train operations are reported to be unaffected.
Korea Railroad Corporation (Korail) has identified that muddy water and soil from the Sinansan Line railroad construction site near Gwangmyeong Station flowed into the area. Korail has temporarily blocked the entry points of the muddy water to prevent further inflow and is managing the site.
Citizens who heard the news hope that no greater damage will occur. Netizens commented, "The rain was pouring heavily. It's understandable that the station got flooded," "I hope there isn't much damage," and "Were they unprepared despite the heavy rain forecast?"
Meanwhile, Gyeonggi Province announced that it has been operating the Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters at Emergency Level 1 since the morning of the day. According to the Korea Meteorological Administration forecast, the expected rainfall in Gyeonggi Province from this day until the morning of the 14th is 50 to 100 mm (up to 150 mm).
