Mutual Respect in the Educational Community... Ulsan Office of Education Strengthens Support for Protecting Teachers' Educational Activities
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Du-yeol] The Ulsan Metropolitan Office of Education has prepared concrete implementation plans for the opinions proposed at the "1st Discussion Forum for Creating a Culture of Mutual Respect in the Educational Community," held in relation to the incident in June where a student assaulted a teacher.
To this end, the Ulsan Office of Education launched a working support team composed of teachers and education office officials and specifically discussed support measures for schools and teachers to protect educational activities among the proposals made at the first discussion forum on the 6th.
At the first forum, it was pointed out that various projects and support systems for protecting teachers' educational activities were not well recognized at the school level.
In response to this, the education office decided to produce and distribute to schools ▲a manual for protecting educational activities ▲a personal educational activity protection handbook ▲a guide on procedures for handling infringements of educational activities ▲and an operation guide for the Teacher Healing Support Center.
They also plan to conduct capacity-building training for school personnel responsible for protecting teachers' rights and related duties.
Following last year's pilot operation, they will assess the current status of the teacher work phone number service provided to all schools this year and prepare improvement measures to make the service more convenient for schools and teachers. They will also consider applying a customer call automatic recording system and school phone guidance messages uniformly to all schools.
The teacher healing clubs and teacher healing programs will be expanded to help restore educational activities for teachers affected by infringements and damages.
The education office will support effective operation of mandatory education for students, parents, and teachers at all school levels to prevent infringements of educational activities and will conduct on-site inspections.
Regarding the handling of infringement cases, the issue of transferring the school teachers' rights protection committees established at each school to the regional office for operation, and the issue of recording infringement cases in the school life record book like school violence, require related legal amendments. Therefore, they plan to propose these matters at meetings such as the Council of Superintendents of Metropolitan and Provincial Offices of Education and meetings of Ministry of Education officials in charge of metropolitan and provincial offices.
