Imsil-gun Conducts Joint Drone Pest Control to Prevent Rice Pest Damage
[Imsil=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Park Nosik] Imsil-gun, Jeonbuk announced on the 11th that it will conduct joint drone pest control to prevent the increasing trend of rice pest damage due to recent sudden weather changes.
Since the 4th, the county has supplied general pest control pesticides for rice to each eup and myeon, and started aerial pest control from that day.
As concerns about late-stage pests such as rice blast and bacterial leaf blight have recently increased, the first round of joint pest control will be conducted until the 21st, and the second round from the 5th to the 15th of next month.
The aerial pest control, promoted as a pledge project, has been expanded to all eup and myeon, and this year marks the fourth year of implementation throughout the county, serving as a strong support for Imsil-gun, which has a large elderly population over 65 years old.
In particular, this year’s aerial pest control plans to cover the entire area with drones operated by six Imsil-gun pest control corporations, and pest control will only be conducted until 10 a.m., when the effect is most effective.
During the second pest control, nutrients will be added to thoroughly manage late-stage growth such as lodging prevention and grain quality improvement.
The aerial pest control area is planned to cover 2,243 hectares in the first round and 2,216 hectares in the second round, totaling 4,459 hectares.
The total project cost is 880 million KRW, of which 40% is funded by the county, 20% by local agricultural cooperatives, and farmers only need to bear 40%.
For eco-friendly farms where aerial pest control is difficult, and areas adjacent to livestock farms and orchards, a total of 236 million KRW (40% county, 60% farmers) will be used to support two types of insecticides and fungicides for 1,132 hectares, conducting individual pest control at the farm level in line with the aerial pest control schedule.
The pesticides used in this aerial pest control have been selected to avoid unintentional contamination by choosing those with Maximum Residue Limits (MRL) simultaneously set not only for rice but also for peppers and peaches, to comply with the PLS (Positive List System for pesticide residues).
County Governor Shim Min said, “During the joint pest control period, pest control must be carried out using aerial pest control and the supported pesticides to minimize pest damage,” and added, “We will continue to promote agricultural policies so that the elderly can farm comfortably during the 8th administration.”
