Hotel, Immersed in Art... Enjoying Exhibitions with a Private Docent
[Asia Economy Reporter Jeon Jinyoung] The hotel industry has fallen in love with art. The industry is introducing private docent tour programs led by professional curators alongside art exhibitions.
On the 9th, Signiel Seoul announced the launch of the ‘Shepard Fairey Private Docent’ package in collaboration with artist Shepard Fairey. Shepard Fairey gained public recognition through impressive works such as the portrait poster 'HOPE' of Barack Obama, the 2008 U.S. presidential candidate, and is also famous as the founder of the globally beloved clothing brand 'OBEY.'
The package includes a one-night stay and a private docent tour (for two people) at Lotte Museum, where Shepard Fairey personally explains the main artworks. The package is available for stays until the 31st of this month.
The private docent tours will be held twice at 7:30 PM on the 29th and 30th of this month exclusively for package customers. Participation is limited to 20 rooms per session on a first-come, first-served basis. After Fairey’s explanation of the artworks, guests will also have time to individually view the exhibition.
A representative from Lotte Hotel said, “We prepared this package to enhance the value of experiences unique to Signiel Seoul beyond just staying at the hotel,” adding, “We hope guests create precious memories that become a source of vitality in life through the emotional impact and lingering impressions from meeting a world-renowned artist and enjoying a special rest at Signiel Seoul.”
Grand InterContinental Seoul Parnas in Samseong-dong will exhibit the second phase of ‘True Luxury with Art’ artworks in the hotel lobby on the first floor starting July and will offer private docent tour programs led by professional curators.
Guests can appreciate masterpieces by masters such as Kim Chang-yeol and Kim Tae-ho alongside trendy works by contemporary artists. Every Wednesday and Friday from 3 PM to 6 PM, the chief curator from Start Art Korea will professionally introduce the exhibited works in an easy-to-understand manner through private docent tours.
The second exhibition of True Luxury with Art includes preview works from Start Art Fair Seoul 2022 and contemporary works by verified emerging artists. Featured are ‘Time’ by Kian84, who expresses a unique artistic world beyond popular webtoons; ‘Merging in Dreamland’ by Heo Seong-yoon, exploring the ambiguous boundary between self and world and various unconscious fragments encountered in dreams on canvas; ‘Untitled’ and ‘Rainy Season’ by Yoon Min-joo, who adapts natural objects at the cellular level and paints them; ‘That Day’ by Mignon, expressing self-inquiry about the reason for human existence and relationships; and ‘Secret Place for Daniela’ by Gam Man-ji, which pictorially expresses an unintended raw feeling.
