Donation of Ice Boxes, Ice Packs, Water, and Beverages to Support Neighbor Care Activities
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The Seoul Volunteer Center is launching the ‘More Fun Than Playing Freeze Tag!’ campaign to care for neighbors exhausted by the heatwave. The campaign will run for 19 days from the 8th to the 26th during the peak heat period across 100 districts in Seoul.
Autonomous district volunteer centers, volunteer camps, companies, local cooperatives, zero-waste shops, post offices, and other public, corporate, and citizen groups are joining forces to support climate-vulnerable individuals and neighbors suffering from the heatwave. The autonomous district volunteer centers, volunteer camps, zero-waste shops, and Seoul Central, Gwangjin, Seodaemun, and Songpa post offices operate Freeze Tag stations installed throughout Seoul.
The Freeze Tag campaign is divided into two activities: ‘Collecting’ and ‘Sharing.’ Collecting involves receiving donations from residents of unused camping iceboxes, cooler bags, ice packs, and beverages. Sharing involves volunteers freezing ice packs, storing them with beverages in iceboxes, and delivering them to neighbors exhausted by the heat while checking on their well-being.
This year, the campaign collaborates with Korea’s leading local community platform, ‘Danggeun Market,’ to make it easier for citizens to access campaign information and participate. From the campaign start date on the 8th, an online map showing neighborhood Freeze Tag stations will be available on the Danggeun Market application, and participants can write and share their campaign experiences in the ‘Neighborhood Life’ category.
Meanwhile, citizens who find it difficult to visit Freeze Tag stations can participate in the campaign through donations on Naver Happybean. By searching for ‘Our Neighborhood Heat Refrigerator’ on the Happybean website and selecting the donation box, they can contribute. The funds collected through donations will be used to purchase water, beverages, and supplies for climate-vulnerable individuals.

Center Director Kim Eui-wook said, "I hope that through the Freeze Tag campaign, residents in neighborhoods will break down the cold walls that have built up between neighbors and create an opportunity to care for and look after each other."
