Suwon City and Police Conduct 'Joint Nighttime Crackdown on Overdue Vehicles'
[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Suwon City in Gyeonggi Province is collaborating with local police stations to conduct a "Nighttime Joint Crackdown on Overdue Vehicles" until October.
Suwon City will utilize two vehicles equipped with seizure systems during police DUI checkpoints to check the overdue status of vehicles being inspected.
If an overdue vehicle is detected, payment of the overdue amount will be encouraged on the spot, and payment methods will be provided.
Drivers of high-amount or habitual overdue vehicles and "Daepocha" (illegal vehicles) will be criminally charged, and the vehicles will be forcibly towed and auctioned off.
The crackdown targets include ▲ vehicles with two or more overdue automobile tax payments ▲ vehicles with automobile-related fines overdue by 300,000 KRW or more ▲ Daepocha, etc.
Daepocha refers to illegal vehicles where the ownership transfer process was not properly completed during the sale of the vehicle, resulting in a discrepancy between the registered owner on the vehicle registration and the actual driver.
On the night of May 31, the city conducted its first "Nighttime Joint Crackdown on Overdue Vehicles" in cooperation with Suwon Nambu Police Station around Gyeongsu-daero.
The city detected 10 overdue vehicles on site and collected a total of 13 million KRW from the respective owners, including 10 million KRW in overdue payments and 3 million KRW in non-tax revenue.
A city official stated, "We decided to conduct joint crackdowns with the police to impose direct and strong measures on defaulters who repeatedly ignore overdue notices and seizure orders without paying their debts," adding, "We will develop various collection techniques to eliminate blind spots in overdue payments."
